DUCT 04.07.05
Noticed the air looked a bit hazy while driving home this evening and
thought there may be a chance of some conditons on VHF and above.
Upon arriving home (5.30pm) it was good to see that Mt Gambier 144.550
beacon was 5/7 (644 Km), though at that stage its mates 432.550 and 1296.550
were not present.
Was not long and signals began rising from 432.550, which at this stage is
5/7 at 6.15pm. The 1296.550 beacon is also in and out on the Spectran
screen, not audible yet. The night is young.
Broken Hill beacon 144.525 - 5/3
Mildura 144.436 - 5/5
Adelaide quiet.
6.00pm - VK3XPD Alan, Melbourne, 144.100 - 5/3 only
6.18pm - Working VK3JWC Dylan, Stawell, 144.100 - up to 5/9 - 432 Km- Dylan
running 100w into 2m short boom yagi 12 element (this contact is in almost
the same direction as Mt Gambier).
6.26pm - Finished with VK3JWC and a quick check of Mt Gambier beacons shows
2m - 5/8, 70cm - 5/3; 23cm - not much at all.
6.30pm - current weather - Wind - 0 Km/h; Temp 5.1 degC; RH - 89%; Bar -
1027.3 hPa steady; DP +6 degC.
7.05pm - not looking good, Mt Gambier 1296.550 absent from Spectran for over
30 mins now. 144.550 only 5/3; 432.550 only 5/2.
8.30pm - Mt Gambier beacons quite bad still, but did work Colin VK5DK at Mt
Gambier up to a 5/8 signal on 144.100 some QSB 633 Km.
After this everything is pretty dead. See what happens in the morning.
